The Palaka is named for it's checked woven patten and it is believed that the fabric first made it’s way to Hawaii in the late 1800’s when Americans ordered tons of checkered-patterned thick cloth from England to make uniforms for the field workers

Combining a classic jacket design with a traditional Japanese sashiko indigo dyed fabric sure makes an interesting combination and it will be interesting to see how this jacket will look after being worn for some years.
