She was Sigmund's second wife and gave birth to a son, Sigurd, who would go on to become the most famous of all the heroes of the Wlsungen family. When her husband was killed by Odin in the battle against Hunding's sons and his sword broke on the spear of the god Gungnir, she carefully saved the pieces so that her son could dispose of them later.
